“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
Mary Oliver

In 2014, at the age of 50, I was struggling to figure out what this next chapter of my life would look like.

The truth is, the search began in earnest a few years earlier, as my kids were heading off to university.

I had been a stay-at-home mom for most of their lives. Now it was my turn. Time to focus on me and what I wanted. Except, as I was about to discover, I had no idea.

I hadn’t realized how badly I had lost who I was and what had once lit me up.

This was the beginning of a journey back to me.

A me that took quite a while and lot of inner work to rediscover.

I have always believed in following my heart, so that’s where I began.

But it wasn’t until today that I really “got” why that sage advice is so bang on!

In the philosophy of the chakra system (of which I admit I am a novice), the heart is the middle of the seven main chakras.

Simplified, the lower 3 chakras – root, sacral and solar plexus – represent our basic human qualities, particularly our need for safety, desire for creation, and our willpower and instinct.

The upper 3 chakras – throat, third eye and crown – represent our higher selves, generally our ability for communication, our intuition, and our receptor for inspiration.

The heart is where our human desires meet our spiritual desires.

It is the bridge between the earth and spirit.

My a-ha today, or at least a deepening of my current knowledge of the chakras and other modalities I’ve been studying that speak of energy centres, was that when you follow your heart, you are moving from a balance of inspiration (higher centres) and safety (lower centres).

Without this balance, you may act impulsively, say something you wish you hadn’t, be too afraid to act because you’re scared of change, or start something then give up because you lose enthusiasm.

Yet when you listen to your heart, you’re able to take inspired action while still feeling grounded.

Your heart is where your desire for something more and better merges with your need for security and control.

That’s why listening to your heart – the seat of your soul – always feels good and right for you.

Your heart is your internal compass.

What I know for sure is that when you let your heart lead the way, you can’t help but become happier, more fulfilled and truly enjoy your one wild and precious life.

If you’re in the midst of reinventing yourself, are wondering what your purpose is, or feel there’s something more you’re meant to be doing, I invite you to take a few minutes, get quiet and listen to your heart. Shhhh…. Hear that?

Much love,

Carolin

P.S. Did you know that your heart was the first organ to develop when you were a fetus? Did you also know that your heart has it’s own electro-magnetic field which can speak to and affect other hearts without your conscious awareness? So…if it can speak to others, then… Just sayin’ đź¤—
